I believe those of us who have gone through serious hardships become, in some cosmic way, related. We form a tribe of battle veterans and fellow pilgrims suffused with knowledge none of us wanted. And although the admission to the club is unexpected and painful, the people you meet once you are there and the person you become will be with you forever.

The Gift of Crisis Finding your best self in the worst of times edition by Susan Mecca SelfHelp eBooks Reviews
A clear eyed look at how to navigate a crisis and emerge with more resilience , more emotional tools and a plan to survive the toughest of times.
Dr. Mecca writes with such heart, connection and understanding of what we go through as humans! Great tools and clarity of what we learn through the trials and tribulations of life, when we let ourselves embrace the lessons.
I am different after my cancer survivorship. After reading this book I have found it is ok, and I am moving forward in my new world.
Susan Mecca has written a thoughtful, reassuring and extremely helpful guide. I find myself paraphrasing the title when talking to anyone going through a troubling time. How do you show up now as the person you want to be? What will help you see yourself through to the other side of this? This book is a practical guide to the simple yet crucial things you can do to keep centered and keep going. I keep a copy on my bedside table, and just ordered two more paperbacks so I always have one available to give to a friend.
Sharing her own family crisis, Susan Mecca shows us a way to, not merely survive, but actually thrive from any critical situation. She gives practical advice and easy-to-follow steps on how to approach the situation; always reminding us to first take care of ourselves. In every chapter she gives workable strategies to be the best we can be so that we will positively ‘act’ and not simply ‘react’ to our personal crisis and to come out the better for it.
She has a very warm way of writing that I found not only easy to read, but very encouraging.
I really like what I have read so far. I had a pretty awful crisis happen in my life several years ago and so much of what I've read resonates. At first our world falls apart, but after that, we have a choice to make. But how? How do we use crisis as a catalyst to propel us upwards and forwards instead of ruining our lives? I have a feeling this book is going to give some amazing strategies. I'm looking forward to finishing and I'll update this review once I'm done.
As a side note I tried to download this onto my iPhone through the app. Under the title it said "This item is not available for purchase from your device". The same from my iPad. I couldn't purchase it through my app, either. Then I remembered that and had a parting of ways a few years ago and it wasn't me or my phone. I logged in to my account on through Safari and was able to purchase it with no problems. After that, I opened my app and the book was there.
Susan Mecca is a masterful guide for helping you navigate the really difficult moments, days, and months in your life. "The Gift of Crisis" provides a unique and very helpful lens through which you can view tragedy and concrete steps to help you work your way through it. Having read a number of books on grieving, this one stands alone in providing specific help in coping with fear and anxiety, staying grounded and centered when your world is out of control, and guidelines in making effective decisions under pressure. No one wants to go through serious hardship or a heart-breaking crisis, but once you have you will really value this kind, insightful and thoroughly inspirational book. Kudos to Susan Mecca for sharing her personal story of crisis to help us overcome our own.
